Center Point Suspension

FAQ / Things To Know

Question Do I need an air compressor? How do I fill it with air?

Question An air compressor is not required but is certainly a recommended item to have if you are going to use an air ride product. If your truck does not already have air onboard, most any portable air compressor designed to fill a truck tire will work great as long as it can produce air pressure up to 80psi, depending on the coach your pulling. A standard tire fill valve is provided as the portal to fill the air spring with air, just like filling a tire.

Question How much air does it take?

Question The air pressure required is calculated at five pounds of air pressure for every one thousand pounds of trailer tandem weight hooked to the truck. If you don’t know this weight, have your trailer weighed, you should know your weights anyway. This formula adjusts the air spring to the desired length and is key to an optimum ride. We want you to maintain the air pressure, which can be monitered on the air gauge located on the side of the coach, or in a compartment. Dramatic changes in load, altitude and temperature may slightly effect the amount of air required so monitor it periodically.

Question What happens if air bag loses air?

Question If the system loses air, refer to the installation guide for simple and straight forward troubleshooting techniques. Air leaks happen but can always be resolved. All of the pnuematices components used on Center Point are DOT approved and standard in the transportaion industry today. These components can be easily acquired. Also, any heavy truck/trailer repair shop can easily do maintenance on Center Point.

Question Can I pull my fifth wheel coach without air in the air spring?

Question The simple answer is yes, Center Point is designed to be airless without damaging the air spring or the Center Point system. Of course, ride qaulity will suffer and the sooner the issue is fixed the better. The safety stops are designed to handle several thousand miles riding without air, however prolonged use will cause them to wear badly and they will eventually need to be replaced. The bottom line however is that you will not be stranded because of an air leak.

Question Is the air spring an off the shelf item?

Question Firestone makes the air spring used on Center Point. The 25C air spring is found in the Firestone Ride Rite catalogs. These are also the same duty air spring used on over the road trucks and trailers, just smaller is size so they are extremely durable.

Question What about maintenance?

Question Another very unique benefit of Center Point is that very little maintenance is required. Besides maintaining the proper air pressure in the system, the next biggest item is maintaining and lubricating the standard leaf springs, eyelets and bolts that came on the trailair. The Center Point system itself is a dry system requiring no lubrication. The body, bearings, shafts and pnuematic components are thought to have a minimum of 200,000 mile duty cycle and potentially as high as 500,000 miles. Yeah, we build it to last!!

Question Can I adjust the ride height?

Question No, you can not change the height of the coach by adding or removing air to Trailair Center Point. The travel ratios incorporated into the design create ride quality advantages, but prohibit ride height adjustments.
