Center Point SuspensionApplication GuideStandard Application![]() Center Point will fit within the perameters diagramed above and listed below: A. 2.5” or GreaterC. 2.0” or Greater B. 2.0” or Greater D. 2 7/8” - 3.5” (If the center hanger is narrower or wider than this range, or if the center hanger is a non-rectangular shape, a secondary mounting procedure is required. See below.)E. Standard spring width for leaf spring suspensions is 1.75”F. Center of bolt to ground no less than 14”. The exact B and C measurements are also critical for sizing the tri-axle version of Center Point. Additional attachments are required for the tri-axle version. If you have a tri-axle application, consult directly with Trailair to determine the components needed to fit a specific application. Primary Mounting![]() Every Center Point kit is equiped with a metal check template that is used to document the exact position of the center leaf spring eyes before removing the tires and wheels. The measurements taken based on this template will dictate the shackle plates used (shown below). The CP sub-unit is placed in the center hanger, bolted, and the side clamp plates are then fastened. Shackle plates, like the ones shown are then fastened. Once this is done on both sides, the trailer is ready to be plumbed. Some installations require a secondary mounting. Secondary Mounting![]() The Secondary Mounting Procedure is used when the center hanger does not comply with the width perameters that Center Point was designed for. When the center hanger is more narrow than 2 7/8”, wider than 3.5” or of a non-rectangular shape, the side clamping plates may not adapt. The procedure consists of drilling an additional set of 19/32” holes in the center hanger, spaced one inch away from the original hole set, either up or down depending on space constraints. The second hole set corresponds with the adjustment hole in the Center Point appature. Two 9/16” bolts with nuts are torqued to 100 ft/ lbs which clamps the Center Point sub-unit in place. The side clamping plates are not required with this mounting method. Note: In some applications longer clamp bolts may be used if the “D” Dimension is longer than 3.5”. Special Center Point models are now available to accommodate the Leland 6170, 6168 and 6169 Jake Plate suspension hangers. Check with your trailer manufacturer to determine if your trailer is equipped with this type of suspension. Also, you can consult the Leland Engineering site at http://www.lelandengineering.com/jakespecs.htm. Ride Height Adjustment![]() Ride heights are matched or changed with Center Point by using different length shackle plates. After documenting the position of the spring eye with the check template, a shackle is chosen that achieves the desired ride height. The Center Point Kit comes complete with the check template, new shackle bolts, mounting bolts, nuts and a selection of various length shackle plates to go with the units and the pnuematics kit. |
